More About Stacey Dooley

Stacey Dooley grew up in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. She was raised by her mother in a council-owned home after her father left the family when she was two years old. Dooley attended Stopsley High School in Luton. Before her television career, she worked as a shop assistant at Luton Airport.

Stacey Dooley | Blood Sweat and T-Shirts

Stacey began her career as a participant in the show Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts, where a group of fashion-conscience Brits travel to India to work in clothes factories that produce for the UK consumer.

Stacey became a popular personality on the show and was subsequently selected to host its sequels, Blood, Sweat and Takeaways and Blood, Sweat and Luxuries. The success of the series earned Stacey a BAFTA nomination in 2009 and she has since presented several documentaries for BBC 3 titled Stacey Dooley Investigates.

Often tackling uncomfortable topics, Stacey has explored the dangerous world of Japan’s child pornography trade and the missing indigenous girls of Canada in a two-part series for the BBC, Stacey Dooley Investigates Young Sex for Sale in Japan and Canada’s Lost Girls.

In 2025, she has been working on Stacey Dooley: Shoplifting, a BBC Three documentary examining the rise of shoplifting in the UK.

On the Front Line with the Women Who Fight Back: Published in 2018, Stacey’s first book draws from her documentary experiences and focuses on the extraordinary women she has encountered throughout her career.

Are You Really OK?: Released in 2022, this book explores mental health issues facing young people today.

Beyond her investigative documentaries, Stacey has appeared in various TV and radio programmes. She has been a guest speaker on the BBC’s Newsnight and is a regular panellist on the current affairs show The Wright Stuff on Channel 5.

In 2018, she won Strictly Come Dancing, beating other well-known faces such as Joe Sugg, Faye Tozer and Ashley Roberts.

Following her Strictly win, Stacey hosted BBC Three Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star competition series from 2019-2020 (seasons 1-2), which showcases make-up artists competing for a professional contract.
