From 1987 to 1997, Sonia Poulton worked as a music journalist, contributing to publications including Q Magazine, Muzik, The Guardian Guide, and The London Evening Standard. Her assignments ranged from touring the War Child Exhibition with David Bowie to travelling across America and Europe with multi-million-selling bands. Notably, she was one of the last journalists to tour with hip hop artist The Notorious B.I.G. before his tragic death in 1997.
After becoming a mother in 1997, Sonia Poulton expanded her creative focus to cover various human interest issues, including social injustices, for national and international media. She has investigated topics such as youth culture and knife crime (The Independent), pushy parenting (Daily Mirror), bad manners (Daily Express), obsessive-compulsive disorder (Daily Mail), the sexualisation of young girls (The Sun), home education (The Times), and multiculturalism (Daily Telegraph).

Sonia has written extensively on austerity, exploring the effects of benefit cuts, food banks, and government policies on vulnerable groups, including the elderly, single parents, and people with disabilities. She has campaigned against welfare and NHS cuts, earning a reputation for her outspoken views on state and parental neglect, global inequalities, and the culture of fame. She has also addressed the sexualisation of children, the medicalisation of childhood, vaccination debates, and the influence of big pharmaceutical companies.
Her personal experience often informs her work. She has penned first-person articles about growing up without her father, the premature death of her mother, and her challenging experiences working in care homes for the elderly and adults with learning difficulties.
Sonia began broadcasting on TV and radio in 1991. She researched, scripted, and presented a live weekly pop culture segment for Kiss FM, including a live report from America during the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Her television work is wide-ranging, from interviewing artists backstage at an AIDS benefit concert (C4) to reporting on the Child Support Agency (ITV) and sharing her experiences with romance and motherhood. She is a frequent guest on BBC and ITV, discussing her journalism, and has debated controversial topics on This Morning, including the age of consent and parental contact in cases of abuse.

Her contributions extend to national and international news programs, including ITN and Sky News, covering subjects such as child sexual assault, establishment corruption, free speech, and censorship. She currently produces and presents the twice-weekly live show Wake Up With Sonia Poulton & Guests on YouTube, Rumble, X, and Spotify.
A former media consultant, Sonia has tutored numerous pop bands, including The Spice Girls, helping create their iconic nicknames. She completed a psychology degree to better understand herself and takes great pride in being a mother. Sonia values human kindness and is outspoken against procrastination, bad manners, bigotry, and performative political correctness.
