Sir Alastair Cook is a former England cricket player and captain who is the highest Test run scorer and most capped England Test player.

Over his career, he earned 161 Test caps for England, 12,472 Test Runs, and won four Ashes series including two as captain.

He retired from international cricket in 2018 and from all forms of professional cricket in 2023.

Since retiring, he has become an ambassador for a range of companies, appearing in campaigns for Gray Nicolls, TNT, Standard Chartered, Clydesdale Bank, National Lottery, and the RAC Club.

In 2019, he released his autobiography Alastair Cook: The Autobiography, which went on to be a Sunday Times bestseller and Telegraph Book of the Year.

Sir Alistair Cook was appointed an MBE in 2011 and promoted to CBE in 2016; he was then appointed a Knight Bachelor in 2019, all for services to cricket.

Alistair spent 12 years representing England, and up until 2016 he was the most capped Captain for test cricket matches.

He was first appointed captain in 2009, and he went on to lead his team to victory in what was his debut test match, repeating the feat in his first one day international as captain. With England, he appeared at one day internationals, test matches, World Cups, and the Ashes.

He played in seven Ashes series, wining four of them and captaining two of those wins.

Throughout his career, he became the youngest player in the world to score 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, and 6,000 Test runs, which further solidified his place in sport’s history.

But it wasn’t just international cricket that Alastair excelled at. He was initially part of the Essex youth team before joining the senior squad, where he stayed for the duration of his club career.

Whilst he retired from international cricket in 2018, he continued to play for Essex until his full retirement in 2023.

Alastair has been a regular columnist for newspapers including The Metro and The Daily Telegraph. He is also a trained pianist, clarinet player, and saxophonist, and even contributed to the CBBC animated series Freefonix which included music-based adventures

Alastair is also a keen farmer, helping to maintain a farm near Leighton Buzzard, staying that along with cricket, farming is “my passion, and not many people can say what they do for their job or their life is what they love doing all the time.”

He has donated is time to a variety of charities, including taking part in The Great City Race for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and has modelled naked alongside fellow cricketers James Anderson and Stuart Broad to raise awareness for testicular cancer. He has also been a patron of the David Randall Foundation, Chance to Shine, The Lord’s Taveners, and the Ruth Strauss Foundation, named after his former teammate Andrew Strauss’ late wife.
