Simon Raybould started his career as a research scientist after completing a PhD looking at the causes of childhood cancer. After 24 years as a research scientist, he became the centre manager of what was then the UK’s largest social science research unit.
That need to look at evidence, the causes, and the relationships is what makes him different from most speakers. His style is to avoid “this works for me”, in favour of “the research shows this works for 85% of the population – try it this way first”.
But Simon doesn’t do ‘lectures’; he knows how to engage people, thanks to his varied career in science, teaching, lighting design, training, writing, directing, and, surprisingly, as a fire eater!
He is also a bestselling author and TEDx speaker. For Simon, his aim is to provide impactful, useful content in an engaging way. You won’t get JAMS – Just Another Motivational Speaker; this isn’t just his personal story, this is Impact Orientated Speaking.

Simon Rayboud spent 24 years as a research scientist, looking at the evidence and causes of childhood cancer and social sciences. He now helps professionals to present to clients, colleagues, or crowds with clarity and impact.
A trainer, coach, and speaker, Simon focusses on StoryMaking, a form of tactical storytelling that will make sure your message sticks and decisions are made. He works with individuals, small groups, and large groups on challenges with voice, confidence, and message-shaping.
In 2024, Simon published his book StoryMaking: How to Use Stories, Not Just Tell Them. A handy guide to using stories tactically, readers explored how to find stories and the different uses for stories, learned how to keep stories, record them, and catalogue them, and how to tell them.

Simon’s most recent speaking engagements are about the power of ‘storyUSING’ in presentations, rather than storytelling. He has also looked at how to be productive in an unstructured world, how to create a working presentation, and how to build your emotional resilience.
All of his talks are customisable to some extent, changing case studies and research examples to suit your business aims and audience.
Simon’s main keynote StoryMaking helps people find, create, collate, and prepare stories for presentations, social media, or just about anywhere else – specific tools and techniques used by professionals to make storytelling look effortless and impactful.
unTelling Stories: There’s no doubt that stories can be an incredibly powerful way of getting your message across, and they will improve almost any presentation, but there is a science to it. Don’t think about storytelling, but think about storyusing. In this keynote, audiences will explore the skills of communicating and how to get their message across by finding the right stories and using them in the right way.
This keynote is suitable for marketing, company (particularly in the technology and professional services sectors), charity, and academic conferences.
Better Presenting: Having brilliant ideas in your head is all well and good, but unless they can be shared with others, they are pointless. This keynote about presenting starts with the science of what not to get wrong, and moves on to more advanced content, so that your presentations aren’t just a time-consuming waste of time, but are more likely t get the results you need.
This keynote is suitable for company (particularly in the technology and professional services sectors), charity, public sector, and academic conferences.
Coping With the Crap (Positively and Less-Than-Positive World): Sometimes life is out to get us, or so it feels like. But by saying “just have a positive mindset” is like telling someone who is too short to reach the shelf that they “need to be taller” – it might be true but it’s not helpful. Simon explores te best research around for how to handle to stresses and strains of an uncertain and complex working world.
This keynote is suitable for charity, public sector, academic, and company conferences.
Coming Up For AIR: AIR stands for Act, Inform, Restore, and it is the ideal framework for being productive and sane in the long term. The good news is that productivity and sanity aren’t mutually exclusive. Act is what you’re paid for; Inform is how you get better at it; and Restore is how you get your head back in the game to do more Act.
This keynote is suitable for charity, public sector, academic, and company conferences.

Simon also offers StoryMaking Live: The One-Day Workshop that teaches you to use stories that sell, to influence decisions, win trust, and grow your brand. It is ideal for business owners, consultants, and creators who want to connect, convert, and be remembered. Delegates will walk away with a storytelling system backed by science, a bank of stories that can be used in sales, content, and talks, and learn how to deliver them with clarity and confidence.
