Shona McGarty is an actress known for her role as Whitney Dean in EastEnders, a role she played between 2008 and 2024.
She made her West End debut in June 2025, starring in Bettie Page: Queen of Pin-Ups – The Musical. The show blended original songs with classic 1950s and 60s hits to tell the story of Bettie Page.
Shona is also a popular singer, and has released singles and produced music videos. She joined “The Celebs” in 2018, releasing charity versions of songs including Merry Christmas Everyone, Let It Be, Thriller, and All You Need Is Love. The singles have supported Action For Children, Alzheimer’s Society, Mind, and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Best known for EastEnders, Shona McGarty’s love for performing started in amateur musical theatre, performing in shows such as The Wizard of Oz.
She joined EastEnders in 2008 as Whitney Dean, the daughter of Bianca Jackson’s (Patsy Palmer) late partner Nathan Dean. During her tenure, she covered storylines including child sexual abuse, grooming, marriage, manslaughter, caring, miscarriage, stalking, mental illness, and imprisonment. She left the soap in 2024.
Her TV credits also include What Goes Around (2007), East Street (2010), Lauren’s Diary (2011), The Queen Vic Quiz Night (2020), and EastEnders: Secrets From the Square (2020).
