With a background as a broadcast anchor and journalist – and in her current role facilitating conversations amongst CEOs at World 50 Group – Sarah Backhouse’s expertise spans topics including geopolitics, sustainability, and technology.
With a career spanning executive leadership, entrepreneurship, and media, Sarah has always been driven by a passion for storytelling, communication and impact; from shaping high-level peer communities to driving corporate strategy, her journey has been defined by curiosity and adaptability.
In 2011 she founded Future 360, a digital platform with a mission to educate audiences on the game-changing potential of clean technology and sustainable innovation. Since then, she has worked as the Director of Global Communications for the Heineken Company, where she launched the company’s strategy, EverGreen 2025, and refreshed their sustainability agenda Brew a Better World 2030.
Since 2015, Sarah Backhouse has been working with the World 50 Group, first as a Director of Sustainability, then Managing Director of Sustainability and Communications; Executive Director in Communications and Finance; and most recently, as the EMEA & APAC Executive Director, where she is responsible for building their private peer communities of CEOs and C-Level executives across the world.
Sarah Backhouse has also worked as a TV anchor and journalist, honing her ability to captivate audiences on the BBC, and Fine Living. She has been an anchor for Al Gore’s ’24 Hours of Reality’ 24-hour event, discussing the reality of the climate crisis; anchor of over 250 short form news episodes for Discovery networks on climate change, coral bleaching, species extinction, and ocean plastics; and an anchor for G Living, a contemporary green lifestyle network that educates consumers on how to tread more lightly on the planet through sustainable stories.
She collaborates with event organisers to craft compelling narratives, guide discussion topics, refine scripts, and develop thought-provoking questions that spark conversation.
As a former TV host, Sarah has developed a natural on-camera presence that helps her genuinely connect with viewers. She is passionate about raising awareness about important issues through compelling storytelling.
As a go-to emcee for top organisations, conferences, and brands, she is trusted to weave together a range of complex topics into a smooth narrative that brings her vision to life. With a mix of energy and insight, she connects with diverse audiences, setting the right tone and pace for each event.
