RONAN KEATING | SINGING CAREER

Ronan Keating was just 16 years old when Boyzone formed in 1993, the youngest member alongside Keith Duffy, Richard Rock, Mark Walton, Shane Lynch, and Stephen Gately. Richard Rock and Mark Walton would soon leave the group and were replaced by Michael Graham. They initially performed in pubs and clubs before being signed to an agent in 1994, releasing their first song, a cover of Working My Way Back to You.

Throughout his Boyzone career, the band released three studio albums, one compilation album, and 17 singles, selling over 27 million records. The band reunited in 2007 for a special appearance for Children in Need, before embarking on a tour around the UK and releasing a greatest hits collection. Sadly, in 2009, Ronan’s bandmate and close friend Stephen Gateley passed away. A year later, the band released a new album entitled ‘Brother’ in memory of their bandmate. They reunited once again in 2013 to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a group.

Ronan’s solo career started in 1999 while still a member of Boyzone, when he recorded the song When You Say Nothing At All for the Hugh Grant film Notting Hill. The song reached number one in the UK charts and was the catalyst for a very successful solo career. His debut album ‘Ronan’ became one of the top selling albums of that year, debuted at number one in the UK chart, and went four-times platinum.

His solo career has seen him collaborate with household names including the Bee Gees, Lulu, LeAnn Rimes, and Elton John. In 2007, he was named in the Guinness Book of Records for being the only artist to ever have 30 consecutive top ten singles in the UK chart.

As a member of Boyzone and as a solo artist, Ronan has performed at a range of live events and in fabulous locations, including the FIFA World Cup 2006, the opening ceremony of the 19th European Athletics Championships, and at the Olympic Stadium Indoor Arena, Madison Gardens; has sung for the Pope twice, performed for the Swedish Royal Family, and at the Prince’s Trust 30th birthday.

Alongside his singing, Ronan has enjoyed a very successful career as a television and radio presenter. He joined the judging panel of The X Factor Australia in 2010 where he remained for five years, spent a year coaching on The Voice Australia (2015), coached on The Voice Kids UK (2022-23), and appeared as a coach on the thirteenth series of The Voice of Germany (2023).

Other television credits include Get Your Act Together (1999), The Morning Show (2009), The Alan Titchmarsh Show (2011), Piers Morgan’s Life Stories (2012), The One Show (2017-present), Would I Lie To You (2019), Lorraine (2018-20), and Martin and Roman’s Weekend Best (2020).

He has presented live events including the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997, the MTV Europe Music Awards in 1997 and 1999, Miss World 1998, the MTV Asia Awards 2022, and co-hosted the Royal Variety Performance in 1998.

Ronan Keating can also be heard on the radio; he covered for the late Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2, presented a Sunday request show on Magic FM, and co-hosted the Magic Breakfast Show from 2017 to 2024.

He has dipped his toe into the world of acting, appearing in film and stage productions including Goddess (2013), Postman Pat: The Movie (2014), Once (2014-15), Love Child (2017), and Another Mother’s Son (2017).

Ronan Keating has always been interesting in helping out charities, and in 1998 he started the Marie Keating Foundation, a cancer charity in memory of his mother who died in 1998 from breast cancer.

In 2009, Cancer Research UK bestowed upon him a Special Achievement Award, to acknowledge the £1.7 million that he and the Marie Keating Foundation have raised for the charity. Ronan was presented with an honorary degree by The Open University in recognition of his philanthropic contributions, particularly to improve cancer care.

He has also supported Christian Aid, the Trade Justice Campaign, Cancer Research, Children in Need, and Sport Relief. He is a UN Goodwill Ambassador, and has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro alongside Chris Moyles, Gary Barlow, Ben Shephard, Kimberley Walsh, Fearne Cotton, Alesha Dixon, Denise van Outen, and Cheryl Cole, raising money for Comic Relief.
