Reggie Yates is an award-winning broadcaster, TV presenter, director, and writer.
His career spans over two decades, from starting out as a child actor to hosting a range of prime-time Saturday night TV shows and hard-hitting documentaries.
His BBC3 Extreme series – Extreme Russia; Extreme South Africa; Extreme UK – have been watched by millions of people and are now streaming on Netflix and Apple TV. His documentaries have earned him multiple awards, including Best Presenter at the Royal Television Society Awards and Best Factual Programme at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
Reggie is also passionate about interior design, recently partnering with Heal’s Furniture. His photography has been exhibited at the Tate Modern and he released his debut book Unseen in 2017.
He was also named on the 2020 Powerlist as one of Britain’s Most Influential Black Personalities.
Reggie Yates made his television debut when eh was just eight years old, appearing in the sitcom Desmond’s, before appearing in Disney Club and Grange Hill. As an adult, he has acted in The Crust, Family Guy, and Doctor Who (2007).
He presented shows for BBC Radio 1, including breakfast shows, The Radio 1 Chart Show, and The Radio 1 Request Show.
Still in his teens, he appeared as a guest presenter on Diggit on CITV. His presenting credits go on to include Smile, Top of the Pops (alongside Fearne Cotton), Dance Factory, Mighty Truck of Stuff, Escape From Scorpion Island, and Only in America. He made a guest appearance on Comic Relief Does Fame Academy (2005), finishing in fourth place, and Stars in Fast Cars (2006) where he made the final.
He is best known now for his hard-hitting documentaries, exploring global social issues through a deeply personal lens. As part of BBC Three’s 2012 Criminal Britain Season, he presented Reggie Yates: Teen Gangs, exploring the culture of anger, fear, and violence that drives the dangerous world of teen gangs. He followed this up in 2024 with Reggie Yates’ Extreme South Africa: White Slums, and Reggie Yates’ Extreme Russia in 2015.
In 2016, he hosted The Insider, personally spending time behind bars in Texas and joining Unit 27 of the 56th Infantry Battalion in Acapulco to live the life of an ordinary soldier fighting on the front line.

Reggie turned his attention to the other side of the camera, creating his first short film Patriarch in 2013, which aired on Channel 4. He has also filmed Date Night which won Best UK Short Film at the London Independent Film Festival, and Make me Famous (2020) premiered on BBC3.
His debut directorial feature film Pirates was released in 2021 and received largely favourable reviews from critics.
