PY Gerbeau is a business leader and transformation expert who has a formidable track record in turning around failing businesses. During his highly diverse career, he has earned a reputation for tackling major corporate challenges and successfully turning around struggling organisations.Â
His unique approach has always placed customer experience at the forefront while also navigating profit, reputation, regulatory issues, and government involvement. Many of PY’s projects have been high-profile, often under intense public and media scrutiny, with some seemingly destined to fail—but PY consistently proved otherwise.
Currently, PY is the President of the French Ice Hockey Federation and a member of the French Olympic Committee. His most recent achievement was playing a pivotal role in securing the Winter Olympics for France in 2030, a monumental task that was completed in record time and hailed by the international sports media as a “sports miracle”.
Before his corporate career, PY was a professional ice hockey player, representing France in multiple European and World Championships and earning a spot to compete in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary.
His promising career, however, was tragically cut short due to a severe accident, which left him confined to a wheelchair for 18 months. Despite the devastating setback, this marked the beginning of his remarkable transition from sports to the corporate world.

PY Gerbeau was in a wheelchair for 18 months, dealing with a life changing injury that ended his ice-hockey career. Shifting his focus, he became known for leading successful turnaround and transformation projects.
His first major public role came as Vice President of Euro Disney (now Disneyland Paris), where he played a critical role in reviving the struggling theme park. Despite facing local opposition and financial difficulties, PY’s focus on customer experience transformed the park’s performance, earning him widespread recognition.

The success with Disneyland Paris led to his appointment by Disney CEO Michael Eisner to take charge of the UK’s Millennium Dome, a project that was haemorrhaging money and support. As CEO, PY turned things around by fostering a positive culture for staff and visitors, attracting over six million guests and securing financial solvency. The venue later became the O2 Arena, one of the world’s leading entertainment destinations.
Following the positive turnarounds with Disneyland Paris and the Millennium Dome, PY co-founded and became CEO of X-Leisure, a leisure property group that grew into a £1.2 billion real estate leader. His innovative approach made X-Leisure a pioneer in the sector, leading to its eventual sale to commercial property giant Land Securities. He also took on various challenging leisure and property projects, cementing his reputation as a leader who excels in difficult, high-stakes environments.
PY Gerbeau was involved with the Thames Estuary Growth Board through his role as Chief Executive of London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH). LRCH was the developer behind the London Resort, a proposed £2.5 billion theme park on the Swanscombe Peninsula in Kent. PY Gerbeau emphasised that the London Resort would significantly contribute to the Thames Estuary’s development, aligning with the Growth Board’s vision to enhance the region’s infrastructure and economy.
During his tenure, he participated in the launch of the Thames Estuary Growth Board’s initiative, “The Green Blue,” which aimed to support around 30 developments in the region, including the London Resort. He highlighted that the project would create thousands of jobs and envisioned integrating river transport to reduce the development’s carbon footprint.
However, in early 2023, PY Gerbeau stepped down as Chief Executive of LRCH following the withdrawal of the project’s Development Consent Order application. This decision came after significant environmental concerns led to a scaling back of the theme park plans.

Outside his business ventures, PY has lectured for over two decades at the London Business School and is a visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship and Corporate Rescue at Imperial College.
He is also in demand as a speaker. Known for his humour, PY shares insights from his vast experience, exploring the challenges, successes, and lessons learned from leading large-scale projects. He draws connections across various industries, particularly in the unpredictable leisure, sport, and tourism sectors, providing valuable lessons for anyone managing a turnaround or navigating complex stakeholder expectations.
