Penny Mordaunt spent 14 years in British politics where she held nine ministerial roles, four in Cabinet. She now works with a range of global organisations and charities to improve lives across the UK.
She has been the MP for Portsmouth North since 2010, and is a current member of the Conservative Party.
Penny Mordaunt is also a bestselling author of Greater: Britain After the Storm (2021) and Pomp and Circumstance (2025).
GOVERNMENT WORK
Penny Mordaunt’s CV is a very impressive list of government and political roles.
She started at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities as the Minister of Local Government, and then the Minister for the Armed Forces at the MOD; Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work at the DWP; Secretary of State for International Development; Minister for Women and Equalities; and then as Secretary of State for Defence.
She was the Paymaster General in 2020, and then became the Minister of State at the Department for Business and Trade the following year, brokering trade deals, and overseeing economic agreements, established the Trade Remedies Authority and was responsible for the UK’s policy at the World Trade Organisation.
Penny came to the public’s attention in 2022 as the Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Penny presided over the Accession Council and the coronation of King Charles III.

OTHER WORK
Prior to her parliamentary career, Penny worked in the public, private, and charitable sectors, working as the Head of Foreign Press for the George W Bush Presidential campaign in 2000, and was a Royal Navy Reservist for 10 years and is now an Honorary Captain.

Wymering Manor: Penny founded the Wymering Manor Trust to save and develop an ancient manor house for the community. The manor is now a hub providing rooms, performance space, catering facilities, and projects for local people.
Enable Ability: Penny is patron for this charity who provides support, employment support opportunities, activities, and respite care for families with a person with learning or behavioural disabilities.
The Music Man: The Music Man Project provides materials and opportunities or people with learning disabilities to perform music. Penny helped found a partnership with the Royal Marines band service, and together they released a top 10 Christmas single.
Do Not Look Away: This film project shone a light on the untold stories of the people of Ukraine.
Portsmouth Hospital League of Friends: Penny was a hospital visitor for eight years, spending time every week on the ward with patients who had no visitors. This dedication saw her named President of the league in 2024.
TEAM LEWIS Foundation: This foundation donates time, money, and creative services to help charitable organisations achieve their ambitions. Penny works with them to support their grant giving.
Coalition for Global Prosperity: Penny chairs the CGP to educate and support leaders in every field to have a positive impact in the world.
The Royal Navy Reserve and MCM2 Squadron: Penny continues to serve as an Honorary Officer of the Royal Navy Reserve, and undertakes projects from fundraising to mentoring to assist the fleet and those serving in it.
The Museum of the Prime Minister: The organisation has a mission to establish a performant museum in London where visitors can explore the achievements, decisions, and lives of British Prime Ministers.
The Commission on Antisemitism: Penny co-chairs the Board of Deputies Commission on Antisemitism, providing ways to tackle antisemitism in society.
In 2021, she co-wrote Greater: Britain After the Storm, which made the bestseller list in the UK and US, and won the Parliamentary Book Award for Best Non-Fiction by a Parliamentarian. In late 2025, she will be publishing her new book, Pomp and Circumstance, which explores the roles of British traditions in shaping the nation’s future.
