Niluka Kavanagh is the Founder of ImagineThat and The Modern CEO, where she helps leadership teams evolve how work gets done.
With a background in corporate and entrepreneurship in London, Asia, and Europe, Niluka Kavanagh brings a rare blend of behavioural strategy, global insight, and real-world experience to the future-of-work conversation.
Through The Modern CEO, she works with forward-thinking companies to break free from outdated systems and build workplaces that attract, engage, and retain top talent. Her work focuses on modern leadership, culture-led innovation, and creating environments where people and performance thrive.
She also helps leaders and teams present with confidence and communicate more effectively, drawing on her extensive experience coaching professionals in public speaking and workplace communication, helping them improve their content, delivery and style.
Having previously built KPMG’s Behavioural Science Unit and internal innovation initiatives, Niluka Kavanagh knows what it takes to spark change from within. She also draws on her own nomadic journey to help leaders lead with empathy, communicate across generations, and keep pace with shifting expectations in a radically changing world of work.
Niluka Kavanagh’s recent speaking engagements include opening the Future of Work Conference 2025 (in Athens) and running workshops for KPMG LLP.
After graduating from Oxford University, Niluka Kavanagh began her career as a consultant at KPMG, working with global clients including Lloyds Bank, Mastercard, The London Stock Exchange, and Tesco. She founded both the firm’s first Behavioural Science Unit and KPMG FutureThinkers, a tech and future of work initiative which hosted speakers from HSBC, The BBC, and more.
After leaving KPMG, Niluka transitioned into entrepreneurship, successfully running two businesses while working from over 14 countries around the world, including Chiang Mai, Lisbon, Tokyo, and Valencia. Her tech start-up was featured on BBC Radio 4 and in The Scottish Sun, while her public speaking coaching business helped over 500 clients improve their presenting skills worldwide. Her experience of building businesses while working from anywhere led her to create ImagineThat – The Business School for Nomadic Entrepreneurs, which now has a thriving community of over 1,000 members and was recently spotlighted by Oxford University in an entrepreneurial feature.
Since then, Niluka Kavanagh has lectured at top universities, including Trinity College Dublin, the University of Edinburgh, and Somerville College, Oxford. Her work has been published by The World Financial Review and Cambridge University, and she hosts the YouTube channel @BreakingBoundarieswithNiluka. She holds a BA Honours from the University of Oxford and an accounting certificate with CIMA.
