Mike Gunn is a stand-up comedian, presenter, actor, writer, voiceover artist, and corporate host.
He is most notable for his performance on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and for his appearances on Al Murray’s Time Gentlemen Please.
A misspent youth and a series of grim jobs cultivated his cynical outlook on life and a perverse desire led him to the world of stand-up. A self-confessed pessimist, he describes himself as “not a natural choice for a career in laughter”.
He has a rare ability to walk close to the line of what audiences find acceptable and yet still remain likable and funny. His reputation for being a bit unfriendly, a touch dark and even morose is not true. In real life he’s loving, warm and philanthropic. Just a bit misunderstood.
Mike Gunn’s career didn’t get off to the best start. He dropped out off school due to drink problems and drug addiction. After trying a variety of jobs, he took the step to attend rehab, and has been drug-free since the late 1980s. It was actually during his rehab that he took up stand-up comedy, performing his first gig in North London in 1995.
Initially performing as himself, he cultivated a different persona known as the Funeral Director. This character saw him perform in his first Edinburgh Fringe Festival show in 2002. His show the following year saw him explore his 10 years as an addict and his inspiring story of recovery. It was so well received that it was given an Arts Council grant which led it to be performed around the UK in treatment centres, prisons, and schools.

He has performed as a solo comedian, but has also supposed the likes of Jo Brand, Alan Davies, and Lee Mack. He has performed internationally in countries including Ireland, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. He even became the first comedian to play in Kuatan, East Malaysia, and has entertained troops in the Falkland Islands.
His solo and supported gigs have seen him shortlisted for the Time Out Dubai – Music and Nightlife Awards for Best Comedy Gig as part of the Laughter Factory alongside Justin Moorhouse and Paul Sinha.
Mike provides a comedy course, aimed at beginners he helps people escape the humdrum of office life and become a comedy start in the making in just six weeks, with the course culminating in a performance at the famous Comedy Store in London.
As well as his comedy work, Mike feels just as a home in a corporate setting as an awards host or after dinner speaker. His years of experience shine through as he tailors materials to suit any scenario. Fun and engaging to work with, Mike has been part of many prestigious events, from birthday parties to trade shows.
