Micky Gray is a former Premier League football and England International. He is best known for spending 12 years playing for his hometown club of Sunderland AFC.
He began his career as a schoolboy in the Manchester United academy, playing alongside names who would go on to become legends of the game, including David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Gary and Phil Neville.
After 18 months at the Manchester United academy, Micky Gray signed to Sunderland as an apprentice, before bursting onto the senior team in November 1992. He played in a variety of positions, including left winter, left back, and striker. He had a few years where he didn’t play much, but then in the 1995-96 season, he started every game for Sunderland, with the club winning Premier League promotion.
The next few years were rocky for Sunderland, and for Micky, and he left the club, signing for Celtic in September 2003 on a four-month loan. After this four months, he moved to Blackburn Rovers, making 64 appearances. He spent two years, split into two one year stints, on loan at Leeds United, before moving to the Wolverhampton Wanderers.
On an emergency 30-day loan in 2009, Micky joined Sheffield Wednesday, a loan that soon turned into a permanent signing until 2010 when he announced his retirement.
As well as his clubs, Micky also played for the England team, making his international debut against Hungary in 1999. He played his first international competitive game two months later during their Euro 2000 qualifying period. He only played three international games.
Outside of professional playing, Micky has become a football pundit for talkSPORT, working as their Manchester correspondent. He also became an investor in Golf Punk magazine in 2006 to prevent it from closing.

Micky’s experiences on the biggest stage brought a lot of praise, as well as scrutiny and unwanted attention. However, he dealt with the adversity through his innate drive and determination, qualities he discusses as a popular keynote speaker.
