Matthew Griffin is one of the world’s most renowned futurists and leadership coaches. Once referred to as a “walking encyclopaedia of the future”, he helps build tomorrow’s high-performance companies.
He is the founder of the Futures Advisory firm, 311 Institute, and is a 15 times author of the hit Codex of the Future series.
Matthew Griffin has a reputation for identifying, tracking, and explaining the impacts of emerging technologies and trends on global business, society, and culture. He as worked for companies including Atos, Dell-EMC, and IBM, and his client list include royalty, world leaders, and global investors.
After graduating from the University College of North Wales with a degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography, Matthew Griffin became a Channel Manager for Exertis UK, where he stayed for six years. Over the next few years, he worked for Dell-EMC, first as a Civil Government and Healthcare Client Director, then as an Area Manager for their corporate district, finishing as an Area Manager for their global enterprise.
Over the next eight years, Matthew Griffin held various roles at IBM, including as their Global Sales School Training Manager, Chait and CTO at their BlueSky Forum, and their R&D Extreme Rapid Innovation Program. It was whilst at IBM that he gained a reputation for being able to turn around underperforming tier 1 multinational accounts.
In his four-year period here, he grew their Public Safety and National Security shares from 3% to 31%, increased their year-on-year gross revenue by over 11,000%, and their goss profits by over 12,000%. He left IBM in 2014 and became the Head of Global Sales at Atos.

In 2016, Matthew Griffin founded the global futures and deep futures think tank 311 Institute. His singular mission was to help organisations to envision, build, and lead an inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable future for everyone.
He is now the Futurist in Chief, and devotes much of his time into the two sub-division of the company: World Futures Forum, and XPotential University. Together, they aim to reduce global inequality and ensure everyone can access the benefits which the future holds.
“Most futurists only see a small slice of the future, which means your audiences won’t get to contemplate or experience all the futures ahead of you. Now imagine having just 30% of the information you need as a leader. That’s what most audiences and businesses get. Now imagine seeing everything the future has to offer.” As a world-renowned futurist with knowledge of hundreds of emerging technologies, Matthew’s insights are astounding, and is reflected in his ability to speak on the literal A-Z of subjects.
Matthew Griffin has spoken at multiple United Nations summits and was the only futurist to be invited to speak at COP28 in Dubai. With a background in conservation, marine biology, and oceanography, he has always been interested in climate action and sustainability. Under his leadership, the 311 Institute is proud to be a Net Negative organisation, and is working to become a Zero Harm, Zero Impact, and Zero Waste organisation.
Matthew is also regularly featured in the global media including the BBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, Discovery, Forbes, Khaleej Times, Telegraph, ViacomCBS, WIRED, and the WSJ.

Matthew Griffin is a great speaker and we thoroughly enjoyed his keynote at this years industrial control cyber security nuclear show. Participants were educated on future emerging technology, disruptive innovation and the threats of these new developments to critical infrastructure. Nobody has a crystal ball but it’s great to meet those that can create a timeline based hypothesis on where we could/will be, by looking at past data, trends and if current research and development continue what that technology will look like and be capable of in the very near future.

Matthew was selected as our keynote speaker to present on the Future of FMCG at the Henkel Innovation Day organized by Pioneers. He did a fantastic job and showed the audience how the rapid pace of technological progress will affect how the industry manufactures, markets and sells its products in the future, and then discussed how new, autonomous innovation trends will impact the industry over the next ten to twenty years.
