Born in 1975, Matteo Renzi’s interest in politics began during school, but he didn’t immediately work in the political industry as an adult. After graduating from University, he went on to work for CHIL Srl, a marketing company, and was an association football referee at amateur level.

But his love for politics soon came out, and he was on of the committee founders in support of Romano Prodi’s Prime Minister candidature in 1996. In the same year, he joined the Italian People’s Party and became its provincial secretary three years later. He would then join Francesco Rutelli’s Daisy party in 2001. But it would be in 2004 when his political career exploded him onto the global scene, when he was elected President of the Province of Florence, with a focus on tax reductions, cultural investments, and the environment. He became Florence’s mayor in 2009, and then Italy Prime Minster just five years later.

After his term as Prime Minister came to an end, Renzi became a senator, contributing to politics and publishing a number of successful books on Italy’s future. With over 3.5 million followers on social media, Matteo uses his position to promote causes close to his heart, such as international affairs, the environment, and global economic issues.
