Mark Butcher was one of the most prominent county cricket players of the 1990s and 2000s.
Making his debut in 1992, Mark boasts a first-class cricket batting average of over 40%. As a testament to his influence in the game, he was awarded an Honorary Life Membership to the Marylebone Cricket Club in 2010.
Outside of cricket, Mark is a popular singer and musician, and a highly sought-after elite sports speaker, focussing on peak performance, inspiring audiences to push their own capabilities, and showing resilience.
Mark Butcher first took to the professional cricket pitch in 1992, playing county cricket for Surrey. He played his first Test match for England in 1997, the start of a career that saw him play in 71 Tests and make eight centuries.
It is thanks to his father and coach Alan that he dominated the sport. When Mark found himself going through periods of failure, he would turn to his father, who would turn his form around, often becoming England’s go-to to help turn the game around in a crisis.
Unfortunately, due to a bout of injuries that he struggled to properly recover from, he announced his retirement in 2009.
Since retiring from active playing, he has become a prominent cricket commentator for Sky Sports, Star Sports, and ESPN. He has also appeared in the Sky Sports documentary You Guys Are History, which looked at the decline of black cricketers in England.
Mark is also a guitar player and singer, and even sung at the funeral of his teammate Ben Hollioake.
In 2001, he appeared on the Jamie Theakston Cricket Show on BBC Radio 5 Life. He released his debut album in 2010 and has performed alongside musical star Sarah Brightman on BBC One.

With his wealth of knowledge and experience in elite sport, it is no surprise that Mark has become a popular and sought-after sports speaker. His speaking topics include:
– Mental and Physical Resilience
