Training in the pre-lottery funding era in a minority sport had its challenges, yet at the Athens Olympics of 2004, Leon Taylor and his diving partner Peter Waterfield managed to secure a silver medal, Britain’s first medal in the sport for 44 years!

During his diving career, Leon enjoyed sustained success at the highest level, participated at three Olympic Games, and was a member of Team GB for 16 years. As well as his silver medal, in 1998 Leon invented “the world’s most difficult dive” – a backwards 2 ½ somersaults with 2 ½ twists in the piked position. Carrying a 3.8 tariff, it was the most difficult dive performed in competition at the time

He retired from diving in 2008 but still enjoys involvement with elite sport. He is a member of the British Olympic Association (BOA) athletes commission, which saw him help Team GB athletes prepare for Rio 2016. Now known as “the voice of diving”, Leon has commentated for the BBC at all major diving events, including London 2012.

In 2019, Leon co-founded Adeki Performance, where he helps everyone from athletes to competitors to business leaders improve their performance by enabling them to understand, measure, and manage their stress. Then in 2022 he became the Director of Confident Club, who help individuals to increase their confidence in all aspects of their lives through presentation coaching and personalised support.

In 2011, Leon released his book MENTOR: The Most Important Role You Were Never Trained For; a combination of short stories and simple techniques presenting a fresh and vibrant perspective on the attitude, communication, and thought skills needed to be a great mentor.

Since retiring from diving, Leon has become a successful mentor; his mentoring skills are put into good use in his work with SportsAid, the UK’s leading charity for young athletes. He also delivers mentoring workshops to charities, businesses, and individuals up and down the country.

He is a qualified coach with a Diploma from the Academy of Executive Coaches. He has been coaching executives since 2014, building on his 15+ years of experience mentoring Olympic and Paralympic athletes. He provides 1-1 coaching, offering clients a way to learn sustainable habits – this was actually the inspiration behind his TEDx talk “How to manage your mental health”.

Leon also provides workshops to help individuals and leaders to achieve their desired results; his most popular workshops are the mentoring workshop, and the resilience workshop.

Leon is a highly sought-after keynote speaker; with an infectious passion and enthusiasm for the lessons he has learnt, he has been asked to speak at a wide range of events with audiences from business leaders to school children.

He also provides an event hosting service; flexible and able to think on his feet, his relaxed style makes guests enjoy any event, and helps other presenters speak with confidence. Over the years, he has delivered impactful presentations in 21 countries and is deeply passionate about sharing insights that can help other people thrive.
