Jim Moir, better known by his stage name of Vic Reeves, is most famous for his comedy double act with Bob Mortimer.

The comedians have starred in award-winning TV shows for over 30 years, including The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, and Shooting Stars, gaining both commercial favour and a cultish fanbase, cementing Jim’s status as a British comedy icon.

Jim is also an actor, presenter, and artist who has had his work exhibited at spaces including the famous Saatchi Gallery in London.

Jim Moir | Comedy and Acting

Widely celebrated for his wit, eccentricity, and creativity, Jim Moir became a household name in British comedy for TV work including Vic Reeves Big Night Out, The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, and Shooting Stars.

Jim joined the alternative comedy circuit under many guises, including the loudmouthed American Jim Bell, a poet called Mister Mystery, and then eventually, the North-East’s Top Light Entertainer Vic Reeves.

His TV debut came in 1986 on Channel 4’s The Tube. He would go on to make comedy appearances on One Hour With Jonathan Ross, Big Night Out, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Room 101, Most Haunted, and Families at War.

As an actor, Jim has starred in Randall and Hopkirk (2000-01), Catterick (2004), The Fun Police (2011), Eric & Ernie (2011), Hebburn (2012), Inspector George Gently (2015), Coronation Street (2017), Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators (2020), and All Creatures Great and Small (2022).

Vic is often on our screens as a presenter, and has fronted shows such as Vic Reeves Examines (2000) which featured celebrities like Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas discussing a topic of their choice. He has also hosted the ten-part series Rogues Gallery where he investigated and portrayed a wide range of historical figures such as Rob Roy and Blackbeard, Vic Reeves Investigates: Jack the Ripper (2007), Brainiac: Science Abuse (2007), My Brilliant Britain (2009), and The Big Flower Fight (2020).

Together with Jools Holland, Jim presents the Jools and Jim’s Joyride podcast, which sees a special guest invited to take to the road, discussing everything from transport to travel.

Art has always been Jim’s first love, and his original and eccentric artwork has been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, Royal Academy, The Baltic in Gateshead, and at the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight.

He has produced art under both Jim Moir and Vic Reeves, reflecting that whilst his art is serious, it does combine with his comedy work. He has worked with painting, ceramics, photography and lino prints, and his art is often described as surreal and sometimes macabre.
