Born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Jack grew up with a passion for sport from an early age. He attended Ripon Grammar School, where his natural athleticism was evident, but it was diving that quickly became his calling. He first became interested in diving when he was seven years old after a lifeguard at Harrogate Hydro swimming pool suggested he take lessons. Then inspired by the performances of legendary British diver Leon Taylor at the 2004 Athens Olympics, Jack joined the City of Leeds Diving Club, a hub for nurturing world-class talent.
Under the guidance of coach Ady Hinchliffe, Jack’s skill and dedication shone through. By his teenage years, he was already making waves in junior competitions.
Jack’s senior breakthrough came in 2010 when, aged just 15, he competed at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, winning two gold medals in the 1m and 3m springboard events. This early success was a sign of things to come, as he established himself as a key member of Team GB’s diving squad.
The 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games marked another milestone, with Jack claiming three gold medals in the 1m springboard, 3m springboard, and 3m synchro alongside diving partner Chris Mears. Their partnership proved a winning formula, combining Jack’s technical mastery with Mears’ composure and consistency.

Jack’s career hit a new high at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where he and Chris Mears won gold in the men’s 3m synchronised springboard, Britain’s first Olympic diving gold medal. The victory was a landmark moment for British sport, cementing Jack’s place in Olympic history. He also claimed silver in the individual 3m springboard, becoming the first British person to win two Olympic diving medals at a single Games.
Jack continued his success at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021 due to the pandemic), where he won a bronze in the individual event. This cemented his status as one of Britain’s most consistent and decorated Olympic divers.
At Paris 2024, Jack’s fourth Olympic Games, he continued his remarkable run by winning bronze in the men’s 3m synchronised springboard, this time partnering with Anthony Harding.

Beyond the Olympics, Jack has enjoyed an illustrious career at the World and European Championships. He has amassed multiple medals across individual and synchronised events, often standing on the podium in fiercely competitive fields dominated by China’s world-leading divers.
At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Jack and Chris Mears secured a historic bronze in the 3m synchro, a breakthrough that set the stage for their Rio success. Jack has also dominated European competitions, including gold in the 3m springboard at the 2016 European Aquatics Championships and further podium finishes in the years since. He returned to the podium at the 2023 World Championships in Japan, with silver in the men’s 3m synchro.
