Securing medals at all major championships, Iwan Thomas MBE was one of the most successful 400m runners in the UK.
Once the British record holder in the 400m, Iwan was also part of several medal-winning 4x400m relay teams.

He is a highly sought-after after-dinner speaker and regular event host. He was made an MBE in 1998 for his services to athletics.
Iwan Thomas MBE has been sporty since a young age, competing in BMX racing when he was nine years old, and going on to win over 400 trophies in just seven years. He seriously moved into athletics when he was 18, making the team for the World Junior Championships.
At the same time as studying for his degree in Sports Studies, Iwan was making a name for himself on the track, and went on to enjoy an illustrious career that saw him win medals at all the major tournaments.
His medal haul includes:
Olympics: Silver medal in the 4x400m relay (1996)
World Championships: Gold in the 4x400m relay (1997)

He was also named Wales Sports Personality of the Year in 1998.
His coach for the majority of his career was Mike Smith, who had previously coached fellow Great British Speakers Roger Black and Kriss Akabusi.
Iwan was plagued with injuries throughout his career, including a fracture to his ankle in 1999, and an Achilles injury ruling him out of the 2004 Olympics and 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Since retiring from professional athletics, Iwan has become a popular television presenter and personality. His first foray into the world of television was a health and fitness expert for This Morning and on Channel 4’s Sunday show Destination 2012.
