Dr. Hilary Jones MBE is a British general practitioner, television doctor, and medical columnist best known for his decades of work on UK breakfast television.
Born on 19 June 1953 in Hammersmith, London, he graduated from the Royal Free Hospital Medical School in 1976 and initially worked in a variety of clinical settings, including surgery, emergency medicine, and general practice in the NHS.
Dr Hilary Jones first appeared on TV in the late 1980s, but rose to prominence when he joined GMTV in 1993 as the programme’s resident health expert. When GMTV ended, he continued in the same role on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, offering accessible medical advice, public health commentary, and regular updates during major health events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. His calm, practical communication style has made him one of the UK’s most recognisable medical voices.

Beyond television, Dr. Jones has written multiple books, including health guides and medical fiction novels, and has served as a medical newspaper columnist. He also supports several health charities, with a particular interest in preventive medicine, mental health, and men’s health awareness. In recognition of his contributions to broadcasting and healthcare communication, he was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
