Household favourites Si King and Dave Myers – are known for their travel shows, delicious cooking, and entertaining Northern banter. They have presented over 30 food travelogue programmes for the BBC and written over 20 cookbooks.
Meeting in the 1990’s when they both worked in television production, they have been showing off their cooking prowess since 2004, and aren’t showing any sign of stopping soon.
Si and Dave are life-long foodies and passionate cooks; they take every opportunity they can to pack their panniers and head off in search of authentic culinary and cultural experiences in all corners of the world.
Si and Dave became best friends after meeting on the set of The Gambling Man where Si was the second assistant director, and Dave was the head of prosthetics, hair, and make-up. They were brought together by a shared passion for motorbikes, travelling, and food.
Their food travelogue programmes have been produced mainly for the BBC. These shows include The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook, The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain, Hairy Bikers’ Twelve Days of Christmas, The Hairy Bikers: Mums Know Best, Hairy Bikers: Best of British, The Hairy Bikers’ Mississippi Adventure, Hairy Dieters, The Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure, The Hairy Bikers’ Northern Exposure, The Hairy Bikers’ Comfort Food, Hairy Bikers: Route 66, and The Hairy Bikers Go North, amongst many others.
As well as their own travelogue programmes, Si and Dave also presented a five-part series for Channel 5 titled The Chocolate Challenge with the Hairy Bikers (2020) where seven chocolatiers battled it out to create, brand, and name their own chocolate bar. The esteemed television presenters are choice hosts at events and awards all over the country including Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park, The Taste of Grampian, Yorkshire Dales Food Festival, International Cheese Festival, and Southport Flower Show, to name a few.
As well as their own travelogue shows, they have been guests on other food-related shows, including Saturday Kitchen and James Martin’s Brittany.
Si and Dave are big personalities in quiz shows and panel shows, including The Weakest Link, Richard and Judy, Genius, Countdown, and Strictly Come Dancing.
They are also popular guests at food festivals such as the Dundee Food Festival, and the Summer and Winter Good Food Shows at the NEC in Birmingham. They are popular sights on tours where they cook and share recipes with the audience, as well as chatting about their life. In 2010, they went on their first tour Big Night Out, where they cooked, talked, sang, and danced with Bob Mortimer.
Known for their hearty and comforting meals, Si and Dave took a different approach and presented Hairy Dieters: How to Love Food and Lose Weight to show how people can lose weight and still eat great food; this went on to produce their most successful tie-in cookbook.
As well as being popular personalities and television presenters in the UK, their television programmes and cookery books have spanned the globe from Norway to Belgium, Germany to Romania, Italy to Spain, Australia to the US.
As well as their television shows, they have written and published 17 cookbooks, 6 diet cookbooks, and one autobiography, which have sold in excess of 5 million copies. Their book The Hairy Dieters went on to win the Food and Drink Book of the Year National Book Award.
Most recently they have produced a new cookbook Simply Healthy Food, as well as an accompanying BBC2 series, and their podcast Hairy Bikers: Agony Uncles…a Right Pair of Aunts, as well as the launch of their very own beer in connection with the Big Smoke Brew Company.
Not content with cooking and travelling, Dave has a passion for gardening and the history of art, whilst Si is a talented drummer and regularly performs at festivals with his band, Little Moscow.
The Hairy Bikers took a break in 2022 after Dave was diagnosed with cancer.
