Gillian Burke at Great British Speakers is a biologist with an eye and an ear for drama and storytelling.
After guest appearances on BBC Two’s ‘Watches’, Gillian has joined Chris Packham and fellow GREAT BRITISH SPEAKER, Michaela Strachan in the Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch line-up as a regular presenter, doing both live and pre-recorded items for this much-loved BBC show
Whether it’s in the natural or human world, Gillian is fascinated with the universal themes of struggle and loss, defeat and victory, endurance and resilience, the light and shade of being alive. This is where her passion for science and storytelling reside.
Having claims to African, Asian, European, Native American, Oriental and Polynesian ancestry. This mixed lineage has found expression in the stories she tells. Serving fresh narratives and different perspectives is to push past barriers, borders and boundaries and discover greater empathy and connection with each other and the world we live in.
But let’s be clear; she considers herself as just another person trying to figure all of this out and working hard to make the world a better place. To kick back on a plastic-free beach, enjoy an earth-friendly beer and stop working so hard.
Gillian is an eloquent speaker having spoken at many high profile events including Countryfile Live.
