Gary McKee – known as the Marathon Man – is an endurance runner and fundraiser.
In 2022, he completed an extraordinary feat by running 365 marathons in 365 days, running over 9,500 miles and raising more than £1.3 million for Macmillan Cancer Support, and Hospice at home West Cumbria. What makes this even more amazing is that he was still working a full-time job at the Sellafield nuclear site, which meant he often began his daily marathon at 5am.
Thanks to his relentless dedication to charity, he was honoured with a Pride of Britain Award and the Freedom of Copeland by Copeland Borough Council.

Gary McKee credits his motivation to his father’s cancer diagnosis in 1997, inspiring him to support cancer charities.
Over the last two decades, he has undertaken a number of challenges, including climbing Kilimanjaro, cycling through Brazil, climbing the three peaks, trekking through New Zealand, running from Land’s End to John O’Groats, jumping out of aeroplanes, walking across hot coals, and rowed the equivalent distance of the English Channel and back.
In 2017, he challenged himself to run 100 marathons in 100 days; he completed seven London marathons and ran 110 marathons in 110 days to celebrate Macmillan’s 110th birthday.
But it was his 365 marathons in 365 days that would be his biggest challenge.
He started his 365 marathon challenge on 1st January 2022, and ran 26.2 miles every single day for the entire year. Over the course of that year, he raised over £1.3 million for Macmillan Cancer Support and West Cumbria Hospice at Home.
And if that wasn’t enough, in 2023 he completed the Grand to Grand Ultra, a 171 mile foot race starting at the Grand Canyon in Arizona and finishing at the Grand Staircase in Utah.

He has since become a popular figure in the media, regularly appearing on national TV on shows such as Good Morning Britain, and This Morning, and appearing on the Gobsmacked podcast, hosted by Catherine Williamson. He has also featured on CNN and Sky Sports, and in The Telegraph and The Daily Mail.
He also carried the Olympic Torch, and led out the trophy for the 2022 Rugby League World Cup at Old Trafford.
His extraordinary feats have made him a highly sought-after speaker on topics including:
