Freya McGhee is a comedian and author who incorporates her chemistry background into her work.
Her sharp, relatable material blends science, modern dating, and everyday life. She brings credible scientific insight and warm stagecraft to corporate and academic audiences.
Freya is the co-founder of the live comedy night ‘Comedians in STEM’, which has sold out venues in London and an entire Edinburgh Fringe run.
Freya McGhee initially moved to Brighton to study chemistry, but found her passion turned from the lab to live comedy – a move which has served her well after being a finalist in the 2023 Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year.
She has gigged extensively at comedy clubs around the UK as a solo performer and as one half of the smash hit show ‘Comedians in STEM’. Her comedy draws on her background in chemistry, including science, technology, engineering, and maths, as well as the ups and downs of modern dating.
Freya’s debut book A Day in the Life of the Periodic Table is due out in September 2026. A laugh-out-loud guide to the periodic table that takes a playful look at different groups of elements and their characteristics.

Freya is one of those acts that whenever I’m on the bill with her it’s like ‘OH HELL YES!’ She is so funny it’s actually annoying!

Freya was perfect for compering our Science Comedy Extravaganza in Liverpool as part of the British Science Festival. She kept the audience lively throughout and expertly shepherded our line-up of scientist/comedians across the evening.
