Fran Scott is not only an advocate of an excellent end-product, but she also works hard on improving access and the visibility of under-represented groups, particularly women. Driven by the lack of positive female STEM-based role models on children’s TV, she set about to change that. And now, more than 15 years later, she has presented and contributed to a number of television shows.

After a few years working behind the scenes, she moved to the front of camera in 2012, and has since presented shows for CBBC, BBC Learning, Yesterday, Discovery and BBC Worldwide. Her shows and presenting style have received recognitions including multiple BAFTA nominations, a Japan Prize nomination, an RTS Award, an International Emmy nomination and she was listed in The Progress 100: London’s Most Influential People.

Still passionate about children’s TV, Fran has made the move into more adult-focussed programmes, hosting and contributing to the likes of The Department of Complaints (2018), Newsround (1972-), Massive Engineering Mistakes (2018-), Lego Masters (2017-2018), Engineering Catastrophes (2018-) and How Hacks Work (2018).

She also heads up the demonstration team at the Royal Institution as the Science Content Producer, where she plays a pivotal part in their world-famous Christmas lectures. She also runs her own stage production company, Great Scott! Productions, which works with well-known brands including Google, Siemens and Raspberry Pi to deliver high-quality science communication. Both of these roles give her ample opportunity to train the next female role models within the STEM industry.

Fran’s infectious passion, coupled with her years of designing science-based shows means she delivers brilliantly entertaining and inspiring talks. She instils audiences with confidence, explaining how best to harness the fear of the unknown and make the most of any opportunity. Fran is an expert at  distilling complex scientific theories into easily digestible information and she shares her formula for explaining anything to anyone with audiences – allowing them to walk away with the tools to communicate more effectively both at work and in general life.

Fran has presented a number of scientific stage productions alongside the likes of Professor Brian Cox and Richard Hammond. Her presenting style is relaxed, knowledgeable with an eagerness to ‘get stuck in’. Although she prefers to present and attend events in person, she also has a wide range of experience in studio work, virtual events and recorded and live television.
