Born with a rare form of dwarfism and the hip condition Perthes, Ellie Robinson began swimming at just four years old. She excelled in her sessions and joined the British Swimming’s elite World Class Podium Potential programme in 2014. And it’s fair to say she started at the very top.

She made her international debut in 2015, setting a new world record in the 100m swim. She won an incredible four medals at her first major tournament, following this up with a gold and bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016. She has since won a gold Commonwealth Games medal, a gold and silver at the 2018 European Championships, and a silver at the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships.

Ellie’s swimming achievements did not go unnoticed; she was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2016 and awarded an MBE by the late Queen in 2018.

Since retiring, Ellie has released her first children’s book, titled Gold Medal Mysteries: Thief on the Track (2023). It follows “three sporting detectives as they race around the world” to find a stolen gold medal. Thanks to pre-orders alone, the book made it to the Amazon bestsellers list in the category of ‘Children’s Fiction on Physical Disabilities’.

In 2024, Ellie was part of Channel 4’s swimming presenting team for the Paris Paralympic Games.
