Dr Mark Deeks is an international and TEDx professional speaker, educator, and musician. He is passionate about fostering creativity and harnessing the power of music to improve engagement, mental health, performance, and wellbeing.
He is able to seamlessly combine his knowledge of music with his passions for creativity and mental health. His enthusiasm on the subject, along with his own personal story, make him an infectious speaker and host – and he is often accompanied by his piano.
Dr Mark Deeks is an experienced speaker who likes to challenge our assumptions about music, and help us to understand the important role music can play in our mental health and wellbeing.
Mark has appeared as a guest on a range of popular television shows, radio channels, and in publications, including on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5, BBC Radio Newcastle, Times Radio, on BBC’s Children in Need Big Singalong, and in The Guardian and Metal Hammer. In 2020 he published his book Not Another Piano Book, which shows readers that playing piano can be achievable for anyone.

He has spoken at the BBC Radio Children in Need Big Fancy Dress Singalong Project, and the world’s first Men’s Mental Health Summit on Clubhouse. As well as his musical keynote speeches, he offers a range of interactive music-based workshops that can be combined with his talks. All of his virtual and in-person events include the option of live piano, making your event memorable and impactful.
From delivering a TED talk on the mental health benefits of heavy metal, to his choir working with BBC’s Gareth Malone, leading workplace-based musical projects to improve staff wellbeing, conducting the Royal Northern Sinfonia, musical directing for Faye Tozer of Steps, and giving Lenny Henry piano lessons – Mark has done it all and more.
