βWe can do more than we think we can. We just have to dare to dream.β
Dee Caffari is a world-record setting yachtswoman, and the only woman to have sailed solo non-stop around the world β both the wrong way (against the tides and winds) and the right way. She has, in fact, now sailed around the world an impressive six times.
As a former teacher, Dee Caffari sailed into the world record book when she became the first and only woman to circumnavigate the world solo the βwrongβ way in 2006.
Dee is now a highly sought-after speaker, and tailors her insightful talks for clients drawing on her experiences of leading teams in competitive, tough environments, as well as her record-setting solo voyages.
With a Maltese sea captain for an ancestor, you could say that sailing was always in Dee Caffariβs blood. She didnβt immediately go into sailing, and instead spent five years as a PE teacher.
Once she decided to go into sailing, she trained in the Isle of Wight, completing her Yachtmaster course and a range of other ocean qualifications. She then worked for Formula 1 Sailing as a skipper and then a manager. And she hasnβt looked back.
Dee Caffari has led diverse, international teams in challenging environments. As a skipper, she led an international youth team with a 50-50 male/female split in the 17/18 Volvo Ocean Race;
Her first round-the-world voyage came as the skipper of βImagine It. Done’. Called βthe world’s toughest yacht raceβ, the Global Challenge sees sailors going βthe wrong wayβ round the early, against the windy conditions. In 2005, she set off on her attempt to single-handedly circumnavigate the world in this direction, finishing after 178 days. Then in 2009, she completed the VendΓ©e Globe, another single-handed trip around the world. And then in 2011, she returned from sailing around the world in the Barcelona World Race, becoming the first woman to have circumnavigated the world, non-stop, three times.
Dee Caffari continues to challenge herself and historical records. Her current campaigns include being co-skipper of The Famous Project, an all-woman crew who will contest the Jules Verne Trophy in 2025. No woman has so far been part of any crew to conquer the legendary prize for the fastest time around the planet.

We were privileged to have Dee speak to a group of Telstra staff recently. Dee is a wonderful presenter and her practical can-do approach to tackling and succeeding in a world-class challenge was truly inspiring! The audience was spellbound. I don’t believe we have ever had so many people ask so many questions after a presentation, but Dee took it all in her stride and graciously answered each one with good humour and wit.

Excellent! Dee Caffari is very human and engaging. She really brought the challenges she faced on her voyage to life. All the people I spoke to were very impressed. In the plenary session one of the delegates said: βI looked at the programme and thought what in the world is a yachtswoman doing on the programme β what relevance does she have for me? I was wrong as she was really inspiring!β Ten out of ten for content, relevance, style and entertainment.

Deeβs presentation resonated strongly as she gave the highs and lows of her story β the emotional journey. There were strong parallels with the business world that I could relate to β how I can overcome challenges, for example. Her personality is warm, open, honest. The video was very powerful.
