More About Danny Care

Born in Leeds, Danny Care first played rugby union when he was six years old, and at 11 he was invited to join the Academy at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club which meant giving up rugby, although he continued to play at school. After helping them win the under-13 Yorkshire Cup in 2000, he left the Academy and turned his attention back to rugby and by the end of the season he had been selected for Yorkshire Schools’ under-15s.

He went on to play for the Leeds Tykes Academy before being selected for the England under-18’s squad for their Four Nations Tournament. He would go on to play 20 times for the youth setup, as well as for the England Sevens in the 2004 youth commonwealth games.

He made his first senior debut for Harlequins in 2006, going on to play in the EDF Energy Cup and European Challenge Cup. He stayed with Harlequins until 2025, and over that time he made 395 appearances, scoring an impressive 594 points. He played in the Guinness Premiership, Heineken Cup, and Amlin Challenge Cup. In 2012, he helped the team achieve the best ever season as they became English champions for the first time in their history. In 2021, Danny became just the third player to represent the club on 300 occasions.

Alongside his career at Harlequins, Danny played for England’s Sevens’ team between 2006 and 2008, playing against teams including Fiji and France. His performances with the team earned him selection for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where he would win a silver medal.

He was selected for the senior England rugby union team in 2008 and made 101 appearances across 16 years, playing in the Autumn Internationals, Six Nations Competitions, test matches, and World Cups.

Danny retired from international rugby following the 2024 Six Nations.

His ability to change the course of a game with his dynamic play has made him a fan favourite and a respected figure in the rugby community, and he is now a popular pundit, providing insights and analysis on the sport.
