Connor Bryant’s approach combines design thinking, entrepreneurship, and storytelling. He identifies as a “solar punk”, and champions a positive vision of a future where creativity and technology enables humanity to thrive in harmony with nature.
As co-founder of Rubbish Ideas, he has been at the forefront of transforming how businesses approach sustainability since its inception alongside his university colleague, Jack Schneider. He leverages the power of design thinking to help businesses transition from the traditional sustainability practices to more innovative models.

Founded in 2018, Rubbish Ideas consists of a group of designers and sustainability experts who are passionate about making a positive change. They provide consultancy, and design and make products and services which support the circular economy.
Though Rubbish Ideas, Connor also leads Rubbish Reusables, a smart reusable cup and packaging scheme designed to make reusing cups effortless in cafes, festivals, stadiums, and events.
Connor is a highly sought-after speaker, and has inspired at hundreds of schools, universities, corporate events, and industry conferences, with talks that are as practical as they are hopeful.
He is a passionate speaker who brings his knowledge and insights on environmental sustainability and waste management to a global audience, sharing his vision for a cleaner, greener future.
Connor has vast experience supporting festivals, conferences, stadiums, and international sporting events, speaking about the specific challenges of the events sector – from food and packaging waste to vendor engagement and behaviour. Through his talks, he shares stories about how companies are rethinking materials, procurement, and customer engagement. He frames sustainability not as a burden, but as a fertile ground for creative problem solving.
Circular Economy and Sustainability: Connor makes sense of the circular economy in plain language and shows how businesses can adopt circular practices to reduce waste, cut costs, and meet sustainability targets.
Smart Reuse Systems of the Future: Connor speak about how smart reuse systems can transform how we consume, return, and recirculate products.
Data is King, Waste and Carbon Accounting: Connor shows how robust waste and carbon accounting can help businesses to, not only demonstrate compliance, but also identify data-led opportunities for operational improvements and real reductions in impact.
Re-Thinking Waste Management: Traditional waste management has been about making rubbish disappear, with little thought as to what happens next. Connor explains why this mindset is outdated, and looks at how businesses can redesign their approach to wate, by shifting the focus to waste reduction and transparency.

A Waste-Free World or a Rubbish Future: An engaging explanation of what the circular economy really is, as well as a look at our current linear economy of take > make > waste. By contrasting the two, Connor highlights why the shift is not just important, but urgent.
Revolutionising Reuse: Most reuse initiatives fail because they’re inconvenient or poorly scaled. Connor explores how emerging technologies, smart data, and better design can transform reuse from a niche experiment into a mainstream solution.
Data That Drives Change: How shifting from ‘ticking compliance boxes’ to harnessing data can transform your sustainability strategies. Connor shares lessons he’s learned from The Rubbish Portal on how numbers can tell stories, motivate action, and unlock opportunities.
From Bin to Boardroom: For many years, waste management in business was treated as an afterthought. Connor shows why this approach no longer works in a world of tightening regulations, rising costs, and increasing scrutiny.
The Solar Punk Future of Events: Festivals and live events face increasing pressure to measure, report, and reduce their environmental footprint. Connor explores how the events sector can embrace innovation and delight audiences while leading on sustainability.
Is Plastic the Problem?: Plastic often takes the blame, but Connor reframes the conversation around single use, exploring the environmental impact of all materials – plastic, aluminium, paper, glass – and how smarter choices can create better systems.
Entrepreneurship For a Better World: What does it take to build and scale an impact start-up today? Connor shares behind-the-scenes insights from founding Rubbish Ideas, building partnerships, and bringing a sustainability vision into reality.

We are proud to have been working with Rubbish Ideas since 2018. They helped us on our journey to create a 100% recycled and recyclable wine bottle alongside a carbon comparison .Most recently we are using The Rubbish Portal to provide sustainability data to our event customers.
Paul Scaife, Event Wine
At first I was sceptical that it was possible, but with the support of Rubbish Ideas, we’ve been doing cup to cup recycling since 2022 and I am very pleased with the results we have achieved. Before we started cup to cup recycling, by 10pm the ground starts to look like plastic soup. But this time it was different, when all the visitors were gone, I looked at a field. There was still grass, there was still tiles, and compared to the previous edition there were almost no cups.

We worked with Rubbish Ideas to analyse our existing product range to identify opportunities to improve the sustainability of our current products, as well as identify any new product or service opportunities and ways to increase revenue and customer loyalty, led by environmental impact. They delivered a highly detailed and thoughtful scoping study in a timely manner. The study highlighted important areas for improvement, as well as unique and creative opportunities to expand our service offering in the future. We’re excited to implement some of these recommendations and are confident they’ll improve the circularity of our products and business. Overall, we were very impressed by the depth of the study and were very happy with the service we received. Connor’s wealth of knowledge and expertise were invaluable, and he was a real pleasure to work with from tart to finish. We would not hesitate to recommend Rubbish Ideas to other companies who are looking to improve the sustainability of their products or services.

Rubbish Ideas have helped us really steep in the specifics of circularity on our journey to zero residual waste. We’ve measured materials to new depths and developed our first Materials Flow Analysis – which is a fantastic visual tool for monitoring any improvements. Rubbish Ideas is offering the whole events industry a tailored, but sharable solution for the organisations and associate communities, making the road to zero-impact possible. We are proud to be working together on this important project at such a time.
