Connie Fisher in actress, singer, and performer, who rose to fame playing the lead of Maria in The Sound of Music at the London Palladium having won the BBC reality show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria.
Connie made her small screen debut in 2009 on the ITV drama Caught in a Trap. She went on to star in the film The Wedding Dress (2009) and in the national tour of The Sound of Music.
In 2015, Connie fronted the documentary Connie: I Will Sing Again, which followed her emotional journey trying to recapture her singing voice, three years after retiring from public performance due to a congenital throat condition which affected her vocal cords.
Her career has been a fruitful one, but not one without adversity. She now takes her lived experiences to deliver inspiring talks that leave a lasting impression on her audiences.
Connie Fisher’s love for the stage started young, and when she was a teenager she joined the Haverfordwest Operatic Society, performing in The Pirates of Penzance, and South Pacific. She was also a member of the Torch Youth Theatre and National Youth Music Theatre, starring in performances of Woyzeck and Pendragon respectively.
She was encouraged to perform as a soloist during her time as a member of Côr Newyddion Da (English translation – “Good News Choir”), winning the Wilbert Lloyd Roberts Scholarship in the National Eisteddfod ‘Songs From the Shows’ competition. She graduated from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in 2005 in Musical Theatre and received the Gyearbuor Asante prize for the highest score.

Connie has appeared on a range of television programmes, including Star For a Night, Own Money’s Just Up Your Street, and BBC Children in Need.
Her first professional theatre appearance was in a pantomime of Aladdin in 2005.
She came to national prominence in 2006 after winning Andrew Lloyd Webber’s reality show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria to find someone to play Maria in a new production of Sound of Music.
Over her career, she has performed alongside artists including Donny Osmond, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, Andrea Bocelli, Lee Mead, and Bryn Terfel. In 2007, she appeared at the Concert For Diana, Bryn’s Faenol Festival, and also featured on the 50th anniversary recording of West Wide Story.
In 2007 she won the lastminute.com People’s Choice Theatre Award for Favourite Theatre Actress, and was also awarded the whatsonstage.com Theatregoers Choice Award for London Newcomer of the Year.
After she finished performing as Maria in 2008, she appeared in They’re Playing Our Song at the Menier Chocolate Factor and appeared in concerts at Truro Cathedral. She appeared on an episode of Bargain Hunt in 2008, in Caught In a Trap (2009), Casualty (2012), Songs of Praise, and Junior Eurovision: Chwilio am Seren (English translation: Search For a Star).
In 2011, Connie was diagnosed with congenital sulcus vocalis, meaning she had holes in her vocal cords. This seriously affected her speaking and singing voice, resulting in her sounding “like Marge Simpson”. She had three operations and was told she would never sing again, and she had to stop singing professionally. But in 2015, she met voice builder Gary Catona who offered to help her sing again, with the process recorded in the documentary Connie Fisher: I’ll Sing Once More.
