Carlos Gu
Carlos Gu was born in Taiyuan, China, and is a successful competitive dancer in Ballroom and Latin, holding the title of Chinese National Champion and earning runner-up in the UK’s Amateur Latin Rising Star.
Moving to the UK, Carlos felt he could be his authentic self, able to express his sexuality in a way he wasn’t able to in China. He joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2022.
This story of creative rebirth inspired the ‘Amy and Carlos REBORN’ tour in 2025 alongside Strictly Come Dancing dancer Amy Dowden. The show is a heartfelt celebration of resilience and transformation, also influenced by Amy’s own cancer diagnosis.

Along with his professional dance partner Susan, Carlos Gu has competed in dance championships in China and around the world. But it is thanks to Strictly Come Dancing that his profile exploded across the nation.
“I’m thrilled to join Strictly and very excited to get started. It’s a new chapter of my life and a new challenge as well. I’m absolutely ready to take on this journey and to shine.”
He joined the show in 2022, partnering with actress Molly Rainford, making it to the final, finishing as a runner-up. He followed this up the following year with Angela Scanlon who made it to sixth place.
Carlos did even better in 2025, going on to WIN the series alongside former footballer Karen Carney, becoming the first Chinese professional dancer to win the competition.
Along with Strictly, Carlos and Amy teamed up for the 2025 series of Celebrity Hunted for Stand Up To Cancer, and he has appeared on Dancing With the Stars Weekends 2026.
