Andrew Patterson is an inspiring and motivational speaker who has had a remarkable journey.
After playing cricket at a professional level and representing his country, Andrew transitioned into a much-loved schoolteacher. He was a huge part of the school’s PE department, and used his degree in sports science and master’s degree in journalism to help support students to achieve their dreams.
His life took a challenging turn when he was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP), which means he will become reliant on a wheelchair and face a huge life adjustment.
Refusing to accept the wheelchair-bound prognosis, Andrew Patterson flew to the US to have two-thirds of the nerves in his spine severed and complete intensive rehabilitation, allowing him to defy the odds and walk short distances.
Through sheer determination, Andrew recently completed a 5km walk in just under nine hours. His story is a powerful testament to adapting to life’s challenges, perseverance, and never giving up. It highlights the importance of resilience; Andrew passionately believes that resilience is a skill anyone can develop, and he now shares this story with others at schools, colleges, universities, and businesses.
In his motivational speeches, Andrew talks about his journey from playing international cricket and hockey, to coping with his debilitating condition, which means wheelchair confinement is inevitable. His story isn’t just about overcoming physical limitations, it’s about finding strength in adversity, rediscovering your purpose, and showing others that anyone can develop resilience.
