Amy Garcia is a regular face on TV screens across Yorkshire, presenting the region’s most-watched news programme, BBC Look North, for 12 years.
Amy is a straight-talking northerner and a natural at putting people at ease. She’s covered four General Elections and some of the biggest stories to affect the Region including the covid pandemic, cost of living crisis, Manchester Arena bombing, Rotherham grooming, end of deep coal mining.
Amy Garcia recently fronted a series of reports on children’s smartphone use that were shared across the BBC, and occasionally pops up reporting on Morning Live. Amy is at ease interviewing politicians and celebrities, but it’s normal Yorkshire folk she enjoys meeting most –“ Giving them their moment in the spotlight is what regional news is all about”.
Amy always says “yes” no matter how epic or unusual the challenge – She recently walked 3-legged across the region tied to Lindsey Burrow, wife of Rugby player and MND Campaigner Rob. They helped raise over £280,000 for Children in Need whilst battling a named storm.
Amy Garcia has also cycled a 250-mile Tour de France route across Yorkshire on a tandem for Sport Relief and dragged the Look North sofa 150 miles through snowstorms to mark 50 years of regional news. She’s also been strapped to an aeroplane, abseiled down a 120-foot building and plunged into caves beneath the Yorkshire Dales!
Two years ago, Amy ran her first (and last) marathon – The Leeds Rob Burrow Marathon and learnt the cha cha cha for “Burrow strictly ball” at Blackpool ballroom for MND research.

Prior to her life on the Look North sofa, Amy Garcia spent some time as a Senior Journalist at BBC South Today and was a regular face on BBC3’s 60-second news for BBC3.
Amy grew up in Wakefield and worked a Saturday job on the family Market stall selling towels and curtains- a job she credits for her love of talking and hearing people’s stories!
Her career in TV started at the age of 19 in Children’s Programming, presenting programmes for CITV and The Disney Channel. She also fronted a sports show for CBBC, which involved getting Freddie Flintoff to play cricket with a baguette! She went on to front travel and property shows for SKY, which sent her overseas to explore real estate and meet Brits who had taken the plunge to live abroad.
At the age of 27, she did a Master’s in TV Journalism at Goldsmiths University of London (2009) and began her journey into news.
Away from work, Amy Garcia is a dab hand at restoring old furniture, loves the great outdoors and is a paddleboarding fanatic.
She lives in York with her songwriter husband Tim, two children and 6 pet chickens.

I have worked with Amy Garcia on a number of Yorkshire Post events including some of our high end awards and conferences. Amy is always professional, friendly, and a delight to work with. She has a natural flair with the audience and I would highly recommend her to present any event.

I wanted to write personally to thank you for being with us. It was a very special evening for our staff and your presence added a warmth and sincerity that lifted the whole event…. What truly stood out on the night was the kindness, empathy, and genuine humanity you brought with you. You have an extraordinary ability to connect with people and it was felt deeply again when you spent time with our carers and award winners. The way you drew out their stories with such gentleness and dignity meant an enormous amount to them. Many told me afterwards that being listened to and valued in that way was something they would never forget.

Just a quick note to share my thanks to you for hosting the Educating Yorkshire panel on Wednesday. You were absolutely fantastic, and we have had nothing but positive feedback about the entire event.
