Adam Gordon Thomas is a well-known English actor and television presenter. He first gained prominence as Donte Charles in Waterloo Road, a role he later reprised when the series was revived in 2023. In 2009 he joined Emmerdale as Adam Barton, a role he played until 2018.
Outside of soaps, Adam has appeared on numerous reality and entertainment shows: I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! (2016), I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp, Strictly Come Dancing (2023), and in 2025 he co-hosts the ITV game show 99 To Beat with his brother Ryan.

Best known for starring in Emmerdale, Adam Thomas joined the soap in 2009 where he played Adam Bartin until 2018. He has also starred in Casualty (2004-08), Doctors (2002-09), Moving On (2019), and Pitching In (2019). As well as acting on screen, Adam starred at the Empire Theatre in the 2018 stage production of Nativity The Musical.

Adam is of English, Indian, and Caribbean heritage; his paternal great-grandmother was a West Indian with Caribbean ancestry, and his paternal grandfather was from Mumbai in India.
In 2020, Adam starred in the six-part ITV series Absolutely India: Mancs in Mumbai, alongside his brothers Ryan and Scott, and their late father Dougie, where they visited India to learn more about their heritage.
Beyond his acting and television career, Adam Thomas has built a strong presence as an entrepreneur and brand collaborator. He co-founded the popular dining venue The Spinn in Gatley, Greater Manchester, and created the hot sauce label Oh My Glaze, which also has a retail outlet in Manchester’s Trafford Centre. Despite the challenges, Adam has remained determined to manage his symptoms through treatment and lifestyle adjustments, while continuing to take on demanding projects such as Strictly Come Dancing. By discussing his journey publicly, he has raised awareness of the realities of arthritis, showing both resilience and honesty that resonate with many of his followers.
Adam publicly acknowledged having a drinking problem and quit alcohol in 2020 to pursue a sober lifestyle, which his twin brother Scott also did. Adam initially described his relationship with alcohol as not being for enjoyment but rather an escape from stress, leading him to set a goal of six months of sobriety.
