Domestic Violence and How Businesses Can Support Employees Affected by It In 2025

1st Nov 2025

The 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence campaign started in 1991 by the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership, and since then it has grown into an international movement involving thousands of individuals and brands around the world.

The campaign usually focusses on one specific issue to do with domestic violence, but in 2025 the issue is more general looking at everything  from violence against women and girls, respect, gender equality, online violence, online safety, and gender-based violence. The 2025 campaign starts on November 25th and runs until December 10th.

The campaign is marked by individuals, leaders, and brands, with a big aim being directed at businesses who lack the infrastructure to deal with domestic violence amongst their employees. Whilst some companies already work with victims of domestic violence, there is currently a lot more that leaders can do to help their employees who endure violence, train those who witness it, and to protect their staff on the whole.

How To Mark the 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence?

There are several ways individuals, leaders, and organisations can mark the campaign, the most important one being to raise awareness. It’s important that people’s voices are heard, that victims are heard, especially when it comes to violence inflicted on a male by a female – something that still seems to be taboo. Other ways to support include:

– Participate in events organised by advocacy organisations

– Support the victims of domestic violence

– Educate yourself, learn about the cause of domestic violence and how to prevent it

– Advocate for wider change

And….book a corporate speaker. That’s where we can help. Here are just some of the domestic violence speakers we have at Great British Speakers.

Andrew Pain

Whilst domestic violence is something that is spoken about now, it is heavily focussed on male violence towards women. But if you flip that on its head, you get female violence on men, which is still hidden from public view. Andrew is a long-term survivor of domestic abuse courtesy of his former wife, and he knows only too well how isolating personal trauma can be and how it can affect every aspect of your life, including at work. His experiences affected his performance at work, increased his level of sick leave, isolated him, knocked his confidence, and led to severe depression. He is now a highly sought-after speaker, keen to highlight that domestic violence isn’t gendered. To find out more about Andrew Pain, take a look at his full bio HERE.
